Looking at getting my wife a new(er) vehicle. Needs 3rd row, 4wd, towing for 5,000#+.

she is stay at home and watches neighbor’s kid one day a week & in Feb. when her sister has a baby watching it up to 5 days a week depending on her days off. Her Equinox isn’t cutting it with our 2 & her nephew she takes to school. Looking to purchase for the future for towing reasons, either my Jeep on a trailer or a 21’ camper.

I’m a big fan of the Durango, personally. Responsiveness of a unibody, not as bulky as a Tahoe/etc, but most of the capabilities of a proper truck. I also found the interior and infotainment better than most of the competition.

I’m in the early stages of car shopping, lining out a budget, insurance, ect.

I will be looking at other brands as well, problem is I don’t know how much my jeep weights with all the “stuff” on it.

Either way, get something with at least 7500# towing and you should be good.

My father in law had an 06 or 08 Tahoe, which he recently gave to my brother in law (they had a 3rd kid) and bought a 12 Tahoe to replace it. Its essentially the same vehicle as the Suburban but with a shorter wheelbase. Both of his have been really nice, lots of features and creature comforts. Also, lots of flexibility - you can seat 8 or fold down the center seats and remove the rear and have tons of space.

Gas mileage isn’t great, but I think it will pull ‘teens in the city and a bit over 20 highway. If your wife is mostly stay at home and not driving it too much, it’s definitely livable. My FIL dd’s a Volt, the Tahoe is for winter driving (4x4), when family is over visiting and we all need to go somewhere, and occasional trailer pulling.

basicallyMy thought is if I’m getting a Tahoe, might as well get that extra foot and a half cargo space of the suburban. We go on vacation every other year and that crossover gets overloaded basically.

She does drive but not daily, many once a week to her sisters about 30 miles. Or errands or daily house wife stuff. That’s why I wouldn’t mind such a gas hog for her.

I agree with you, if you’re getting something that big, might as well go all out. I was just commenting on the fact that I really like my FIL’s Tahoes, and since the Suburban is basically the same thing, it ought to be nice.

Thanks for this, I wasn’t sure what changes were made between years and the ‘10 model looks better now.

Don’t know if you care or not, but the 2010 has a 6-speed auto and the 2008 will have a 4-speed. The 6L80 is probably less troublesome than the 4L60, and has slightly better fuel economy.

Definitely worth it! Personally a huge fan of Suburbans <3 they have their place in this world and if you need space (covered or seating) + towing it’s my go to option.

I had a 91 GMC back around ‘99-01 was great. But I don’t like the look of the GMC ‘07+. I think that is mainly why I'd get another.

I agree, the Chevy’s of this vintage however look fantastic and a bit more upscale.
